Confession time…
I don’t like to bake. I never really have. It’s too messy, you have to be super precise and having the treats in my kitchen are just the worst temptation (I will literally eat an entire row of oreos if they’re in sight)!
BUT, there is one exception… themes.
I love themes.
Theme parties, themed food, themed bars.
When the holidays roll around I can’t get enough of the themed treats that surface on Instagram and Pinterest. So, I thought I would create my own themed paleo Halloween donuts. Now, these are not my original creation. I saw them first on SheKnows. But since I have a great apple donut recipe I thought I would jazz them up for all hallows eve!
These Halloween donuts are:
- Perfect for a party
- Halloween themed
- Delicious
- Easy
- Fall favorite
- Spooky
- Paleo
- Gluten Free
- Dairy Free
They’ll definitely be a hit at halloween parties and at home when you want a ghoulish treat!
Halloween Donut Recipe
Print RecipeIngredients
- 1 cup cassava flour
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/3 cup maple syrup
- 1/4 cup applesauce
- 3/4 cup peeled and shredded apple (about 1 apple)
- 1 tbsp coconut oil
- 1 egg, whisked
- 1/2 cup carob chips
- 1/4 cup carob powder
- 2 tbsp dairy free milk
- For the vampire teeth I used slivered almonds from Trader Joe's
- For the fake blood I used Wilton red sparkle gel
- For the eyeballs I used Wilton candy eyeballs
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees
Spray donut pan with coconut spray oil
Combine cassava flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt in a large bowl
Whisk together maple syrup, apple sauce, shredded apple, coconut oil and egg in a small bowl
Fold in the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients
Scoop the batter into a plastic baggie and snip a corner of the baggie to pipe the batter into the donut pan
Bake the donuts for 12 minutes
Remove from over and let sit for 5 minutes
While donuts rest, on low heat combine the carob chips, carob powder and milk into a small saucepan and whisk until well combined and smooth
Using a small spoon paint the hair on the donut with the chocolate
Using slivered almonds make the teeth and use candy eyeballs and red icing for the blood (I used store bought)
What are your favorite holiday themes? Do you bake for them?
