During the weekends I’m always looking for something to snack on that has some nutritional value. My go-to is typically an apple, but the other weekend I really wanted something savory. I had just purchased some awesome, simple ingredient, corn chips so I thought… dip time!
Since chickpea hummus is soooo 2016 (and also not low histamine), I thought why not blend up some black beans instead? Now, some exciting news on the low-histamine food front…
Legumes are generally not allowed on the low-histamine diet, however there have been some new findings that beans have histamine fighting properties! In reading a post on Healing Histamine, I found that a number of studies have determined that sandosaponins from a few varieties of beans inhibited histamine. So, that’s also why you’re likely going to see (or have seen) beans back on the nice list.
Why are black beans so awesome, though? Well to start, they’re high in fiber, potassium, folate, vitamin B6, and phytonutrient content. Oh, and they lack cholesterol… this all means… HEART HEALTHY!
Now, like always, this does not mean that beans are not a trigger for you. We are all different – one may be able to eat a particular food while another may not. Please take caution when re-introducing foods back into your diet.
Anyways…. with all this good news, I’m so excited to present to you this quick, delicious and easy black bean hummus recipe for your snacking pleasure.
