Low Histamine Blueberry and Melon Protein Smoothie

In the morning I bolt out the door shoving coffee in my face while running down the steps of the subway praying to the MTA Gods for no delays. Even though I’m often running late, disheveled and likely wearing the same sports bra as yesterday, I always make sure to have breakfast in hand.

As you read on my earlier breakfast on the go post, breakfast is a must-have for me. Not only does it give me energy in the morning, it also keeps me from nose diving into a stranger’s lap on the Q train (it’s happened). Keeping my sugar and protein levels in balance is super important.

Today I’m giving you one of my all time favorite protein packed smoothie recipes. I use Collagen Peptides which has 18 grams of protein in a serving, but you can use whatever protein powder works best for you.

This smoothie is:

  • Packed with protein
  • Has tons of great vitamins and minerals
  • Delicious!
  • Portable

There are so many kinds of fruit combinations you can try. I prefer blueberries as my base as I know that I can tolerate them on a low-histamine diet. Sometimes I get fancy and add cherries or peaches as an alternative to melon – particularly in the winter months when melon isn’t fresh. The best part of this morning blend is that I can eat it while engaging a death grip on a subway pole desperately trying to not make eye contact with the person in front of me.

Here’s to morning routines!
